Trees of Highams was conceived in 2017 in response to a competition by Making Places, which called on proposals for a new entrance gate at Higham Park in London.
The design reimagines the traditional gate as a permeable, notional barrier comprising a series of moveable metal structures that take their shape from the idiosyncratic tree clusters that characterise the park.
Each individual component can be swivelled and set in place to control the flow of visitors, while also framing a variety of views into the park. The dynamic nature of these components also allows the park entrance to change as constantly as the seasons.
